Diabetes Education at Sequoia Hospital

Diabetes education is a tradition at Sequoia Hospital. We believe that with the proper education and adherence, anyone with diabetes can live a full, healthy, and productive life.

A Disease of National Importance
More than 20.8 million people in the United States have diabetes. 6.2 million of those are undiagnosed. Incidence of diabetes in California has increased 13% since 2001, and rates are even higher in San Francisco and San Mateo Counties due to our unique ethnic diversity.

Diabetes is a life-long disease, which presents many difficult challenges. Left untreated, this disease is the leading cause of blindness, heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, and foot problems.

Good News: Good Control Will Reduce Risk of Complications
Data from the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT), the most comprehensive study ever undertaken in the field of diabetes, confirmed that intensive therapy leading to near normalization of blood glucose levels will reduce your risk for diabetes complications.
