Providing Nursing Education for our Community

Sequoia Hospital has entered into a unique partnership with Sequoia Healthcare District, San Francisco State University and Cañada Community College to create an accelerated program where student nurses receive a Bachelor of Science Nursing Degree. The program is funded by Sequoia Healthcare District. This is the first baccalaureate-nursing program in San Mateo County and the first hospital-based baccalaureate nursing school in Catholic Healthcare West.

This partnership will address the state's nursing shortage, a nationwide problem, in which California ranks 49th out of the 50 states. The program estimates it will produce 300-400 new nurses for the region within the next ten years, expecting 41 graduates in spring 2007, and over 40 graduates in spring 2008. This partnership also provides students access to local healthcare facilities, including Sequoia, to complete their clinical training.
