Sequoia Hospital Quality and Awards


Heart and Vascular Institute 
- 2010 Sequoia Hospital announced receiving the highest ranking in the nation for Aortic Valve Replacement (AVR) Operative Survival from 2005-2009 according to the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) National Database Report. Out of 955 participating sites, Sequoia Hospital’s Heart and Vascular Institute ranks number one. This is the fourth semi-annual report in a row Sequoia has achieved the 100th percentile in the US. 
- 2009 Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care designation by Blue Cross of California and Blue Shield of California. Blue Distinction Centers for Cardiac Care provide a full range of cardiac care services, including inpatient cardiac care, cardiac rehabilitation, cardiac catheterization and cardiac surgery, meeting criteria that demonstrate reliability in delivering cardiac care and better overall outcomes for patients.

Birth Center 
- Voted a Family Favorite 2010 Best Birth Center and Best Hospital by readers of Bay Area Parent magazine. Voted “Best Hospital” three years in a row.

Emergency Room (ER) 
- The ER ranks in the top 10% nationwide for patient satisfaction according to 2009 Avatar Surveys, the Catholic Healthcare West (CHW) patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Stroke Care 
- 2009 American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Silver Plus Performance Achievement Award. 
- 2009 Joint Commission recertification as a Primary Stroke Center providing state-of-the-art care for stroke patients in San Mateo County.

Quality and Safety Initiatives
- 2010 California Hospital Assessment and Reporting Taskforce (CHART) Certificate of Excellence for achieving “Superior” or “Above Average” results for quality measures publicly reported by CHART. 
- 2009 Integrated Nurse Leadership Program (INLP) medication safety initiative has been published in the December 2009 issue of the Joint Commission Journal on Quality and Patient Safety. Improved patient safety by reducing moderate to severe medication errors by 45%.

Employee Satisfaction 
- San Francisco Business Times 2009 “Best Places to Work in the Bay Area”.

Environmental Awards
- 2010 Environmental Leadership Circle Award from Practice Greenhealth, recognizing health care organizations for outstanding programs to reduce the facility’s environmental footprint.

Leadership Awards
- Glenna Vaskelis, President and CEO, named to the San Francisco Business Times 2010 Forever Influential Honor Roll, following receiving the Most Influential Business Women in the Bay Area for the past five years. The SF Business Times created this new category to honor woman who are truly influential and have a long standing impact; this is her sixth year of recognition.
