Why is Sequoia Hospital rebuilding?
Following the 1994 Northridge earthquake where hospitals suffered major damage, state lawmakers approved SB 1953 establishing seismic safety standards for acute care hospitals. By 2013, all hospitals must meet the new seismic standards. This is why many California hospitals are being remodeled and seismically retrofitted.
For Sequoia, SB 1953 has served as a catalyst to not only meet the new seismic standards, but to evaluate the future health care needs of our community and plan a new medical complex specifically designed to meet the needs of the next generations.
Will Sequoia Hospital be fully operational during the rebuilding process?
Yes. Sequoia, ranked in the top 5% nationwide for clinical excellence, will continue to provide high-quality medical care for all generations of our community during the rebuilding process.
Will Sequoia Hospital continue to have emergency care services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during construction? Yes. Award-winning emergency care services at Sequoia Hospital will continue during construction and be expanded once the new hospital is completed. Will there be additional parking once construction is completed?
