Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Sequoia Hospital rebuilding?
Following the 1994 Northridge earthquake where hospitals suffered major damage, state lawmakers approved SB 1953 establishing seismic safety standards for acute care hospitals. By 2013, all hospitals must meet the new seismic standards. This is why many California hospitals are being remodeled and seismically retrofitted.
For Sequoia, SB 1953 has served as a catalyst to not only meet the new seismic standards, but to evaluate the future health care needs of our community and plan a new medical complex specifically designed to meet the needs of the next generations.
Will Sequoia Hospital be fully operational during the rebuilding process?
Yes. Sequoia, ranked in the top 5% nationwide, will continue to provide high-quality medical care for all generations of our community during the rebuilding process.
Will Sequoia Hospital continue to have emergency care services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during construction? Yes. Award-winning emergency care services at Sequoia Hospital will continue during construction and be expanded once the new hospital is completed. ER patients are usually seen by a health care professional for triage in 7 to 10 minutes with 22,000 emergency room visits each year. Sequoia's emergency room is open to all patients regardless of insurance or ability to pay.
Will there be additional parking once construction is completed?
Yes. Rebuilding the Sequoia Hospital campus includes construction of a new parking garage that will provide easier, accessible parking to the hospital and the new medical office building. Free valet parking will continue even when the new medical campus is complete.
Where can I park during construction?
We’re very excited to begin the first phase of our rebuilding process, the new parking garage, located in front of the hospital. Construction began in December 2007 and will be completed in Winter 2008. Patients and visitors will continue to use free, valet parking at the front of the hospital during construction. For more parking information, please visit the visitor and employee parking web pages.
